Soil Health Educational Curriculum

Nicole Tautges

A 3 min 48 sec animated video depicting soil microbes and their functions, set to music, is currently under development, through a collaboration with a professional musician and animator. The video will showcase five major soil microbial guilds and describe their functions and importance within the soil microbiome, with catchy music and animation to hook young audiences and introduce them, in a fun way, to soil microbiology and its importance to soil health.

The target audience for this video is high school and college-aged students undergoing introduction to soil microbial ecological concepts. The musical recording has been completed and the animation storyboarding is completed; final rendering of the animation is ongoing. The video is slated for completion by the end of the year 2024. The video will be disseminated to high school and college soil science and/or agriculture teachers in the state of WI and posted to YouTube in early 2025. Some screenshots of completed portions of the video appear below.
