Wisconsin's Grazing Coalition
Chuck Anderas, MFAI
Recognizing the soil health, climate, water quality, and farm profitability benefits of managed grazing, in Year 2, MFAI Associate Policy Director Chuck Anderas led Wisconsin partners in organizing a coalition of groups supporting grazing. The group has gained steady participation from key Wisconsin grazing organizations and strong partnerships with other organizations that have grazing Technical Service Providers on staff, as well as conservation groups like Clean Wisconsin and Wisconsin Land+Water. Coalition leaders have developed a framework for membership, decision making, leadership, and policy prioritization. We also agreed on our shared mission, vision, and values, as follows.
Mission: Our members work together to promote managed grazing in Wisconsin through engagement, advocacy, and organizing to cultivate economically, environmentally, and socially thriving communities.
Vision: Our coalition is guided by the vision that our society will value and support managed grazing and grasslands for their contributions to rural communities, farmer livelihoods, healthy and resilient food production, water quality, climate change mitigation and adaptation, soil health, and increased biodiversity.
Values: We value our members, present and future farmers, our communities, and our environment In developing this coalition, no SHARE or other federal funding has been used for lobbying.
